Fort Bend Child Chosen as the 2008 Houston Arthritis Walk Hero
The Arthritis Foundation held its 4th Annual Houston Arthritis Walk on Saturday May 3, 2008. Taylor Sweatt, a six year old Fort Bend County Resident was the Walk Hero. She was diagnosed 3 years ago with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Taylor is an active, happy child despite her diagnosis.
The Arthritis walk helps to raise much needed funds for research as Arthritis is one of the nations leading causes of disability affecting 46 million Americans. Richmond Bone and Joint Clinic, a local comprehensive center for orthopedic care providing arthritis treatment to many suffering with this disability, served as the Presenting Healthcare Sponsor. Richmond Bone & Joint Clinic was further honored with the BEST GROUP AWARD for most funds raised and highest attendance as a single group.
In addition to the Health Care Sponsorship, Richmond Bone and Joint raised $12,000 through various creative fundraisers at the clinic including a "pie in the face of your favorite manager" sale. Teams had bake sales, build your own burger, and themed baskets were auctioned in the lobby to the public.
The size of the walk is increasing each year creating more funds for Arthritis research.
