Richmond Bone & Joint Clinic Repeat Presenting Sponsor
of Bike the Bend for Literacy
Sunday, November 23, 2008

SUGAR LAND, TX (August 6, 2008) Whether you're an avid cyclist, enjoy the exercise and scenery of cycling or are looking for a good way to spend the day with your family, please plan to join us on Sunday, November 23, 2008. That's the date for one of the county's greatest biking events-Bike the Bend for Literacy.

Bike the Bend is a BP MS 150 recommended ride benefiting the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County (LCFBC) and begins at 8 a.m., starting and finishing at Foster High School, 4400 FM 723, in Richmond.

Riders have thoroughly enjoyed the ride for the past few years, which is strategically scheduled for the weekend before Thanksgiving. With its scenic routes and first rate rest stops, riders will find delicious fruit and snacks from Whole Foods Market Sugar Land, a first time sponsor, as well as a variety of cold beverages to fuel the ride. As in the past few years, Pei Wei Asian Diner will be on site after the ride with their delicious lettuce wraps to top off a wonderful day.

Cyclists of all levels are invited to participate by choosing the route to suit their time and ability. Bike the Bend 2008 will feature three routes of 19, 32, and 59 miles. Riders can register at www.active.com at www.ftbendliteracy.org registration and packet pick-up will begin at 7 a.m., and only cash and checks will be accepted at that time. More than 600 cyclists registered for last year's event, so you will want to register EARLY!

Pre-registration by Sunday, October 10 guarantees the rider a current-year Bike the Bend T-shirt. The cost for pre-registration is $30 per rider. Registration at the event is $40 per rider.

Sponsorship opportunities for Bike the Bend are also available for individuals and organizations. Please visit our website (www.ftbendliteracy.org) for more sponsorship details.

All proceeds will support the life-changing work of the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County, whose mission is to end inter-generational cycles of illiteracy and generate community-wide literacy awareness. Riders, sponsors, and volunteers participating in Bike the Bend for Literacy are helping to unlock the potential for determined adults who want to pass a legacy of literacy (proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding the written English language) to their children.

For more information about Bike the Bend, or to request a sponsorship opportunity packet, please call 281-240-8181 or visit www.ftbendliteracy.org
