Groovy Party 2008? Yes, it is happening September 13, 2008
Since Christmas 2007, hundreds of people have called asking, topics at professional meetings and networking meetings have included the question and at other gathering around Fort Bend County folks have been raising the same question,? Is the Groovy Party going to be held this year?? The answer to that question is a very big YES!
This year's theme is Easy Rider as in the 1969 movie and as in past years, people are invited to wear their 1960s and 1970s garbs, from bell bottoms to psychedelic t-shirts as well as black leather jackets and biker apparel to blend with the theme.
"We are very excited to be hosting Groovy 08 Easy Rider at the Sugar Land Community", remarked Lisa Anhaiser, chair for the Groovy and owner of Linens by Lisa.
"So mark your calendar for the Fifth annual Groovy Party, being held Saturday, September 13, 2008, at Sugar Land Community Center, 7:00 p.m. to 11 p.m. It'll be a groovy time", said Anhaiser.
"As Captain America and Billy the Kid would say, ‘Get your motor runnin, head out on the highway, lookin for adventure, and whatever comes our way'", Anhaiser added.
Leave your watches at home, because this night will be filled with live music from Little Terry and the Blues Birds, who are regulars at Cigar, Cigar on Saturday nights, as well as dancing, delicious food from Pier 36, La Cocina, Sandy McGee's and the Swinging Door.
"Don't miss the live auction, the prizes are sure to excite, with a weekend getaway for four at the Host Retreat in Kerrville and an actual Hog Hunt, plus much more", Anhaiser said.
The Sugar Land Community Center will be transformed into a blast from the 60's past. Plus, the Master of Ceremonies for the evening are Captain America-Wyatt and Cheech Marin, otherwise known in the Fort Bend Community as Steve Stewart and Ray Aguilar with their peppery stream of chatter, which as most know, means it will be a hoot of a good time.
All funds raised go toward supporting the mission and programs at Fort Bend Seniors, which enhance the quality of life for Fort Bend County senior citizens. In 2007, the organization provided over 130,000 hot, nourishing meals to needy seniors, and funding is needed to provide food, services, and resources to both home-bound senior as well as those who are transported to one of seven facilities throughout the county each day.
"We are honored to be the beneficiary of the Groovy Party, it is not only a fun event for the community but it will also help provide funds to help eliminate the waiting list of seniors who are waiting for meal delivery and services," said Manuela Arroyos, executive director, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels.
Those interested in sponsoring the event can be assured the lives of senior citizens in Fort Bend County will be enriched and enhanced by their donations.
"Most people do not realize that the average Meals on Wheels participant lives alone since they have lost their spouse and their children are living and working somewhere around the globe. So there is no one to assist them. These seniors are the ones who built our community, went to work everyday and raised a family. But now, their eyesight is failing and their car keys have been filed in the junk drawer. The volunteers delivering their meals are usually the only face these seniors see on a daily basis," Arroyos said.
Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels is a 50lC(3) non-profit organization and all contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent as allowed by law.
Many sponsorship opportunities are still available.
