Dr. Mohammad Etminan Performs New "X Lif" Spinal Procedure
Dr. Mohammad Etminan, a leading spine surgeon and part of the group of orthopedic specialists at the Richmond Bone & Joint Clinic, recently performed an innovative new spinal fusion procedure at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land.
Amid media attention and a FOX News film crew, Dr. Etminan performed the new "X Lif" procedure on a local Sugar Land woman, who had experienced curvature of the spine and chronic back pain for over 11 years.
Prior to the procedure, the patient reported pain so severe that she often required the use of crutches or a wheelchair. Just days following the procedure, she reported feeling great – stating that the procedure "is like a miracle" and that she can now "walk without pain."
Dr. Etminan explained that the procedure both reduces the risk of nerve damage and facilitates the insertion of graft material, ensuring the best possible outcome in a spinal fusion.
"With this procedure, we approach the patient's spine through the side rather than the front, which required moving the blood vessels over before gaining access," said Dr. Etminan.
"Not only are the blood vessels and nerves undisturbed upon entry with this approach, a special machine helps identify nerves throughout the procedure - greatly reducing the risk of nerve damage. And a specialized 'cage' allows the easy insertion of a new bio-engineered graft material," added Dr. Etminan.
According to Dr. Etminan, the bio-engineered material promotes bone growth and healing between the bones, prompting a more rapid recovery.
Practicing spinal medicine for over 10 years, Dr. Etminan has received academic recognition and practiced at some of the countries top medical facilities.
Treating such disorders as Kyphosis, Scoliosis, Spinal Stenosis, Osteoporosis and other common back conditions, he offers patients the latest treatment for spinal cord injuries and disorders.
Before joining Richmond Bone & Joint Clinic, Dr. Etminan was in the Spine Fellowship Program at Cornell/Hospital for Special Surgery and Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.
Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, he is the author of a number of published articles and recipient of the Stanley Olson Outstanding Academic Excellence Award and the DeBakey Scholar Award.
