Patient Testimonials
Truly... the Best of the Best
On an early Friday morning in April, I was summoned to the PACU by a collective group of nurses and physicians. There was a patient named "Kimberly" that I was told I just had to meet. Not knowing what to expect I entered the PACU, sought out the specific patient, and introduced myself to the child's mother. This is Kimberly's story.
Kimberly was born just three years ago in Connecticut and is where she and her family still reside. She was born with an extremely rare defect affecting her right arm. Essentially, if it was touched in any manner other than gentle it could break. Her parents began taking the necessary measures to protect their little girl for what they were told would be a lifetime. She would have to be home schooled, her mother had to quit work to stay home, and the house had to be sold to move into a less expensive home. Kimberly's family were making all of these sacrifices while still being told by doctors up and down the East coast there was nothing that could be done to improve her condition.
Their persistent attitude led them to an Internet search which generated the name of a researcher in Philadelphia. During a phone conversation the researcher mentioned that a physician from Houston was coming to visit and they should drive down to see him. They made the drive down and within 5 minutes the physician knew exactly what needed to be done to correct Kimberly’s condition. She would need three surgeries. The first two would be done at Memorial Hermann TMC, and the last would be done by Dr. Davino at our own Memorial Hermann Sugar Land.
During my conversation with Kimberly's parents, she was being held in her mother’s arms shortly after her third and final surgery. They could not have been more complimentary of the service, professionalism, and clinical expertise they have experienced within our healthcare system and hospital. Kimberly is doing well and should have her cast off in another few months. As far as can be told at this point, her experience here in Houston will be life changing for her and her family. No longer will they feel the need to protect their little Kimberly in a glass bubble for life. They can live as a normal family. What I will most remember from the time spent with the family were the tears of thankfulness pouring from their eyes as they told their journey from hopelessness to unlimited hope for the future.
The procedure that Dr. Davino performed was a Radial Ulna Osteotomy. He is the only physician he knows of who performs this procedure. He has patients come from all over the world to have this procedure done, which he does here at MHSL.
This is just one story that highlights the life changing work performed on a daily basis by our hospital.Thank you for everything you do to truly make Memorial Hermann Sugar Land the Best of the Best.

I wanted to write a note thank you for all the fantastic work you did. When my son, Evan broke his arm at school, we were told that he needed surgery. Of course we wanted the best, and that’s exactly what we got.
We came to Richmond Bone & Joint Clinic for surgery
early one morning. Evan was scared, but your staff immediately put him at ease. Dr. Davino, nurses and anesthesiologist were very comforting to him (and me) during the surgery prep time.
Everything went according to plan and we went home that afternoon. During our follow-up visits the entire
team got to know us, especially Evan. Everyone talked Evan through every procedure they were getting ready
to do. There was no pain involved and they made sure
he understood that, since it was the most important
thing to him and me as well!
When the cast finally came off and the last pin came out, his arm looked and felt great! He is back to his old self again and playing just like before. Whenever we drive by the Sugar Land location, he always points it out in a positive way.
Thank you so much for taking great care of the most important person in my life, in what was a scary situation. Although our experience was great, you understand when I say “I hope we only come in for a visit.” If something unforeseen ever happens, I know exactly where I will be, Richmond Bone & Joint Clinic.
Thank you,
William Engelhaupt
