Richmond Bone & Joint Surgical
An alliance of healthcare professionals dedicated to uncompromising service to the people of this and the surrounding communities.
Taking the Surgical Experience to the Next Level
As part of our commitment to respond to demanding health care needs in a creative and effective manner, Richmond Bone and Joint Clinic P.A. (RBJC) provides an on-site surgical center.
Richmond Bone & Joint Surgical opened its doors in Winter 2005. This new facility, connected to the 1517 Thompson Road practice location in Richmond, Texas, will serve as another option exclusively for RBJC physicians and patients requiring outpatient orthopedic surgery.
Richmond Bone & Joint Surgical provides outpatient surgery services that are efficient and patient friendly in a state-of-the-art surgical facility. In addition to your physician, we have a highly trained staff of experienced nurses, physician assistants and anesthesiologists committed to providing you with the high quality of surgical care you expect. Our anesthesiologists are provided by Greater Houston Anesthesiologists, the largest anesthesia group in the Houston area.
What to Expect
For patient confidentiality and comfort, private rooms make preparation for your surgery ideal. You will be assigned a nurse to help you get ready for surgery. Here you will be asked to change into a gown, remove all jewelry, contact lenses, dentures, piercings, etc.
Visitors are allowed at this point. We ask that only one visitor at a time be in the pre-op room. We do make exceptions for our pediatric patients so both parents can stay by the bedside. Our cozy family room and larger clinic waiting area is available for the rest of the family.
An IV will be started and any pre-operative medications that have been ordered will be given. The surgeon and surgery nurse will come in and talk with you and answer any questions you might have. Your anesthesiologist will meet with you to discuss the anesthesia.
Surgery
When it is time for surgery, the circulating nurse will verify your name and surgical procedure. He or she will take you to the operating room. You will be asked to move onto the operating room bed where a heart monitor and blood pressure cuff will be attached.
Post-Op Recovery
After surgery, you will be transported to our Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) recovery area. The length of time you stay in PACU recovery depends on your physical status according to specific discharge criteria. As recovery depends on the individual, time varies with each patient. You will wear monitoring devices to monitor your heart, blood pressure and breathing.
If you are having a minor procedure or need to wait for your ride home, you may stay in our Step Down recovery area. Here, you can rest in a comfortable recliner, still under the watch of our post-operative care nurses. Once you have met the criteria for discharge, you can complete your recovery at home. You must have a designated driver for the ride home because you may receive medications that will not permit you to drive.
A nurse will escort you to a discharge area where your ride can bring the car right to the curb. A nurse will contact you within a few days of your surgery to check on your recovery progress.
Fees, Insurance Coverage & Payment Policy
We prefer that all charges be paid in full prior to time of service. However, payment arrangements may be made at the time the procedure is scheduled. Payment in full may be deferred if Richmond Bone & Joint Surgical can verify with your insurance company that you are covered and eligible for the planned surgical procedure. Any deductible or co-payment will be due before the day of the surgery. If the charges are rejected by your insurance company, a payment plan to take care of the balance must be established.
We are happy to accept personal checks, VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover. Our charges cover all expenses including admitting, operating and recovery room, all supplies, routine lab work and medication. Anesthesia services are not included in our charges but estimated pricing for this service may be obtained prior to surgery through the schedulers as well.
Consent
You have the right to reasonable, informed participation in decisions involving your health care. You will be asked by your physician to sign consent for medical and surgical procedures. You have the right to prepare a Directive to Physician, Family and Surrogates (Living Will) or a Medical Power of Attorney for Health Care. With an advance directive, you can direct your physician to provide or to limit life-sustaining treatment, if you develop a terminal medical condition. You will not be discriminated against based on whether or not you complete an advance directive.
Richmond Bone & Joint Surgical is not an emergency center. If you have a medical emergency, go to the nearest emergency room or contact your primary care physician.
